Grades and Grading Options
Grades are available approximately one week after the end of the term. Grades for classes that extend beyond the end of the term will be available approximately one week after the end of the class. Your grades can be accessed online via RamWeb.
If course work for a class in which you are enrolled is not completed by the end of the on-campus term, the professor may assign an "Incomplete" ("I") until a grade reflective of your work can be recorded. Incomplete grades are converted to an "F" after one year or upon graduation, whichever comes first.
For complete Colorado State University grading policies, visit the online General Catalog (section "Grading and Scholastic Standards")
Grading Options
- Traditional
Performance is graded on the familiar A - F scale. Each professor may determine a corresponding numerical scale. Most professors use 90-100 = A, but some may use another scale such as 94-100 = A. Faculty typically inform you of the grading scale on the first day of class.
- Pass/Fail (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory)
You may take some courses, with instructor's approval, outside of their major with a pass/fail grading option. Instead of receiving the traditional (A-F) letter grade, you are graded on whether you met class expectations (S) or did failing work (U). Satisfactory grades count towards graduation but are not factored into grade-point averages.
- Incomplete ("I")
When you are earning a passing grade but are unable to complete a course because of extenuating circumstances, an instructor can give you an incomplete ("I") in the course. You then must complete the course within one calendar year or the "I" will become an "F".
- Instructor Option
The instructor chooses either traditional grading (A-F) or pass/fail grading.
- Student Option
You can choose either traditional (A-F) or pass/fail grading.
Academic Appeal
If you wish to contest a grade assigned by an instructor, contact the department involved and follow the University's Academic Appeals Procedures as printed in the General Catalog.
