Admission and Application

Before applying to the degree program, it is strongly recommended that you contact the program coordinator well in advance of the application deadline to understand and fulfill all requirements.

Minimum Admission Requirements

The Systems Engineering (M.E.) degree requires you to have the following, at a minimum:

  • B.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution in any discipline that includes course work in calculus.
  • A course in statistics or the ability to apply statistical methods – STAT 501 may be taken to satisfy this requirement.
  • 3.0 GPA in undergraduate degree.
  • GRE test scores are not required.

Please note that meeting the minimum department standards does not ensure admission to the program. Admission to Colorado State University graduate programs is based on a number of factors, including prior academic and professional experience and the personal statement.

Before your application for graduate study is considered, all application materials must be received by the department.

Step 1 – Apply Online

  • Complete the online graduate application form and pay the $50 application fee (payable online with a major credit card).
    • Select “Engr/Sys Engr Specialization (Elec & Comp Engr) – Distance” when choosing the Program of Study.

Step 2 – Submit Application Materials

Within several days after submission of your online application, you will receive an email from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering acknowledging receipt of your application and detailing directions for submitting the remaining application materials required. Please do not submit additional application materials until after you receive this email confirming that your application was received.

  • Professional Resume or Vita
  • Official Transcripts
Include two official transcripts of all collegiate work completed from every institution attended, whether or not you received a degree from those institutions. Transcripts from Colorado State University are not required.

If your undergraduate grade point average is below 3.0, you will also be required to submit the following:

  • Statement of Purpose
The statement of purpose is typically 1-2 pages and briefly describes your background, educational goals, research interests, and why you would be a good fit in the program.
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
It is recommended that letters come from faculty, supervisors or others who can accurately speak to your skills as an engineer, scientist, researcher, and student. Letters must come directly from the recommender.

International Applicants Only

Include the following items in addition to those listed above:

  • Official Transcripts
Ensure official copies include a certified translation into English (only one set of transcripts is required).
  • Official TOEFL Scores
Submit official TOEFL scores through the Educational Testing Service (select institution code: 4075).In general, all applicants from countries in which English is not the official language, and who do not have an undergraduate degree from a country in which the official language is English (Canada, U.K., Australia, USA, New Zealand, etc.) must submit TOEFL scores. The minimum score for applicants is 550 (213 on the computer-based test).
  • Proof of Financial Support
Submit the GS3-F Form to show evidence of adequate financial support as required before an immigration document can be issued by Colorado State University.
