Admission and Application
Before applying to the degree program, it is strongly recommended that you contact the program coordinator well in advance of the application deadline to understand and fulfill all requirements.

Minimum Admission Requirements
The Rangeland Ecosystem Science (M.S.) degree requires applicants to have the following:
- A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field such as natural resources or biological sciences (exceptions may be made including taking additional prerequisite courses prior to admission).
- A 3.0 GPA on all undergraduate course work.
- GRE Test Scores are required for this program or may be waived if applying through Track II Admission.
- If submitting GRE scorse – only scores for the GRE General test are required; it is not necessary to take the GRE subject test. Scores from the aptitude test (verbal plus quantitative) should exceed 1000.
Please note that meeting the minimum department standards does not ensure admission to the program. Admission to Colorado State University graduate programs is based on a number of factors, including prior academic and professional experience and the personal statement.
Before your application for graduate study is considered, all application materials must be received by the department.
Step 1 – Apply Online
- Complete the online
graduate application form and pay the $50 application
fee (payable online with a major credit card).
- Select “Rngelnd Ecosys Sci (Forest Rngelnd & Wtrshed Stwrd) MS - Dis” when choosing the Program of Study.
- On the second page of the application (under description of teaching, research...), please indicate whether you are applying for the Plan A or Plan B option.
Step 2 – Submit Application Materials
Gather all of the following materials and submit to the Forest, Rangeland, and Watershed Stewardship Department in one complete packet:
- Statement of Research Interest
Include your long term and educational goals, and how graduate studies will contribute to both. - Three Letters of Recommendation
In sealed envelopes from at least two of the following:- previous or current college instructors
- previous or current immediate professional supervisors
- observers other than supervisors who can verify the professional or intellectual expertise of the applicant
- Official Transcripts
Include two official transcripts of all collegiate work completed from every institution attended, whether or not you received a degree from those institutions. Transcripts from Colorado State University are not required. - GRE Test Scores (if necessary)
Submit official GRE General Test scores through the Educational Testing Service (select institution code: 4075). Scores are typically received by the University 4-6 weeks after your testing date.
International Applicants Only
Include the following items in addition to those listed above:
- Official Transcripts
Ensure official copies include a certified translation into English (only one set of transcripts is required). - Official TOEFL Scores
Submit official TOEFL scores through the Educational Testing Service (select institution code: 4075).IIn general, all applicants from countries in which English is not the official language, and who do not have an undergraduate degree from a country in which the official language is English (Canada, U.K., Australia, USA, New Zealand, etc.) must submit TOEFL scores. The minimum score for applicants is 550 (213 on the computer-based test). The TOEFL may be waived for applicants who have been working in the United States for several years. Submit the GS3-F Form to show evidence of adequate financial support as required before an immigration document can be issued by Colorado State University.

Your application is then reviewed by the admissions committee, and, in about six weeks, you will receive written notification from the department of your admission.

Students may be admitted for fall or spring semesters. Summer admission is not available.

Delivery
Required courses are delivered online. Elective courses are delivered via DVD/VCD or correspondence. On-campus attendance is not required to complete this program.

Can be completed in two years. Program duration may vary based on previous course work, intensity of study, and course availability. Summer courses are not required.

What You Will Earn
You will earn the same regionally accredited Colorado State University degree that a student on the Fort Collins campus is awarded. Your diploma and transcript are identical to those given to on-campus students.
