Degree Overview
You will learn the fundamental concepts in merchandising, including the movement of products through varied levels of the distribution channel, from design and development of the product, to sourcing and production of the product, through to promotion and sale of the product to end use consumers. The program provides an understanding of the character traits and skills associated with good leadership that gives students the ability to analyze and synthesize these traits and skills and develop a personal leadership philosophy to apply to changing situations.
Mary Ann Littrell, Design and Merchandising Department Head, received a 2009 Malone Award for her international education efforts.
As an inter-institutional graduate program offered through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA), you have access to and learn from expert faculty at five institutions. You apply and need to be accepted to the home institution. You then register for classes at the home institution but take online classes offered by any of the partner institutions.
There is also a certificate in merchandising available.

Requirements
36 credits are needed to complete the Master of Science in Merchandising degree. 15 credits must be 500-level courses, and 15 credits must be 600-level courses. The remaining six credits are research credits (DM698 - Research).

- DM 650 - Strategic Decisions in Merchandising (3 cr.)

Admission and Application
For applicants with fewer than five years of related professional experience and a GPA of less than 3.5, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required.
This degree follows the graduate admission and application procedures.
