Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous coursework or experience for this degree?
This program is designed for students who have completed at least 60 transferrable credit hours at the community college level or if you have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree. You are encouraged to complete any outstanding coursework before applying for admission to Colorado State University. Your previous transcripts will be evaluated to determine your academic status in relation to satisfying degree program requirements
How much time will I need to dedicate weekly to my studies?
The amount of time you will spend weekly will depend on the amount of coursework you commit to each semester as well as your learning and studying style. Although this degree offers flexibility, it still requires the same amount of work and time as an on-campus program. It is recommended to spend nine to twelve hours per week on a three credit course.
How many credits can I transfer?
You can transfer a maximum of 64 credits from accredited community colleges or similar two-year institutions. Additional upper-division credits are also eligible for transfer consideration if they are from accredited four-year institutions. In some cases, credit from military, fire, and emergency service training may be transferred if that training carries a credit recommendation from the American Council on Education (ACE).
How long will it take me to finish the degree?
Since 60 transfer credits are required for this program, you will have 60 remaining credit hours to complete at Colorado State University. This can be accomplished in two years, but most students take three to four to finish the program. Most FESA students are working professionals who take an average of two courses each semester.
Will I receive an actual CSU diploma?
Yes, you will earn the same CSU diploma that an on-campus student earns. It will not say that the degree was online or distance
Will there be interaction with other students and faculty?
Your interactions with the faculty depend on the specific course, but online courses do provide you with online office hours, email contact information as well as discussion board postings. You will also collaborate on projects and exchange ideas with fellow classmates through email and discussion board postings.
Will this degree help me find a better job or receive a raise or promotion?
This Bachelor’s Degree in human development and family studies will teach you about all aspects of life that you will encounter in your profession including marriage and family relationships, cognitive and language development and many more topics. Various organizations hire individuals with undergraduate degrees in human development and family studies including school districts, daycares and Head Start. There are paths within this undergraduate degree that you can follow to better prepare you for the career of your choice.
