Degree Overview

The Master of Computer Science (M.C.S.) is offered through the Department of Computer Science. This online professional degree is course work only and is available to qualified students across the world. In this graduate degree program, you will study topics such as object-oriented software design, software testing, network security, algorithms, and machine learning. Course work develops critical thinking, investigatory, and expository skills, while teaching you the foundations of computer science theory and application.

Computer science requires creativity, insights, background, and problem solving skills. Each new application, problem, and opportunity presents new problems, and this Master of Computer Science degree will help you learn how to find solutions. Throughout the classes, you will develop problem solving skills that entail a mixture of theory and application.

Because of its high quality program and a tuition rate well below the national average for regionally accredited schools, Colorado State University's Computer Science master's degree has been ranked a "Best Buy" by GetEducated.com.

Degree Benefits

By completing this flexible and convenient graduate degree, you will be closer to achieving your future goals without having to sacrifice your current responsibilities and commitments. There are many benefits to completing this online degree program:

  • Gain knowledge that can be applied immediately to your career.
  • Interact and network with others in your industry across the nation and around the world.
  • Fit your classes around your needs and your schedule with the flexibility of online learning.
  • Choose the order in which to take your courses — there is no set sequence to complete the degree.
  • Learn from the highly qualified Colorado State University faculty members that are experts in the Computer Science field.
  • Earn the same accredited degree and receive a Colorado State University diploma identical to that given to on-campus students.
  • Learn anywhere and anytime and still receive many of the benefits of being an on-campus student.
  • Participate in the CSU on-campus graduation ceremony. You can also view a live online streaming video of the graduation ceremony.

The Master of Computer Science is one of the best programs you can take online. You will get a high quality degree from a 1st tier college. I used my M.C.S. from CSU to pursue a doctoral program at Columbia University in New York. This could not have happened if I had earned an online degree from an average school.
