Course Descriptions

EDAE 520 – Adult Learning (3 cr.)
Introduces the philosophical foundations, program service areas, adult participation trends, and current issues of adult education as a field of study and practice.

EDAE 590 – Workshop: Assessment, Evaluation, Return on Investment (3 cr.)
Examines theories and techniques associated with the acquisition of knowledge, evaluation of educational programs, and methods of return on investment (ROI) commonly used, including an overview of various models for assessing individual learners, and evaluating courses and programs in education, industry, and adult training environments. Hands-on use of assessment tools and the development of evaluation and ROI plans compliment course materials and provide immediate opportunities to apply knowledge and skills.

EDAE 590 – Workshop: Learning Technologies (3 cr.)
Focuses on learning that can be used in the face-to-face classroom and the distance classroom to enhance learning, including software and providers, culminating in the use of a learning technology in a teaching experience.

EDAE 590 – Workshop: Teaching and Learning at a Distance (3 cr.)
Emphasizes the technologies available for distance delivery and methods for generating and maintaining communication, designing and developing materials, incorporating interactive and collaborative learning activities.

EDAE 620 – Processes and Methods of Instruction (3 cr.)
Introduces the processes, methods, and helping theories used by adult learning facilitators providing the adult educator, community educator, community college instructor, or trainer the strategies and competencies needed to deliver a training or education program.

EDAE 624 – Adult Teaching and Learning I (3 cr.)
Investigates the theory, research, and practice of adult teaching and learning concepts to give students the ability to relate the models and theories of adult teaching and learning to their professional and personal lives.

EDAE 629 – Instructional Design and Program Planning (3 cr.)
Examines designing a course or program from inception following an instructional design model, including the need, audience analysis, the instructional materials, assessment, and evaluation.

EDAE 692 – Seminar: Staying Current (3 cr.)
Introduces current topics, literature, and organizations relevant to students' individual interest areas in adult education and provides tools to maintain current knowledge post graduation.

EDAE 698 – Research (Capstone Exam) (3 cr.)
Synthesizes major aspects of the Adult Education and Training (AET) Masters program in one culminating learning project enabling students to demonstrate mastery of select skills, knowledge bases, and adult education values.

EDUC 600 – Introduction to Research (3 cr.)
Facilitates learning in the areas of the developing an area of focus, problem and research statements, reviewing literature, designing a research method (qualitative and quantitative), analyzing results, and writing about findings giving students the ability to review, develop, and produce research.

EDUC 601 – Philosophy and Organization of Workforce Development (3 cr.)
Addresses topics in workforce development, career and technical education, leadership, talent and human resource development, using research, information, and material from the education, career development, business, organizational development and economic development literature.
