SOCR 480A2 - Seed Processes: Large Legume Seed Production

None, however one college level course in plant biology is strongly recommended.
Description
Students will learn the basic principles of seed production for large seeded legume crops, and will have an understanding for the production needs of three legume seed crops including soybean, common bean, and peanut.
Upon completion of the course, students will:
- understand factors to manage and make decisions regarding field selection and seedbed preparation,
- implement a weed control and fertility program,
- determine proper seed stocks and planting procedures,
- follow state and federal seed laws and certification procedures, and
- fulfill all needs to properly condition, label and market large seeded legume seed crops.

Dr. Mark A. Brick has been been involved in teaching, research and outreach at the university level for over 28 years. As the leader of the CSU Dry Bean Breeding Project, he oversees development of dry edible bean varieties for irrigated and non-irrigated production in the High Plains. His primary areas of expertise are plant breeding, seed production and experimental design.
