SOCR 300 - Seed Purity Analysis

Prerequisite

SOCR 200 (Seed Anatomy and Identification) or written consent of the instructor.

Description

This course teaches students how to assess the quality of seed lots destined for planting purposes and how to perform these assessments accurately.

Students must complete six proctored exams and a sample purity analysis.

This course will prepare those interested in the Seed Analysis Training profession for the AOSA or SCST certification examinations.

The online version of this course must be completed within six months of registration. No time extension is allowed.

Jack Fenwick, Ph.D. is a faculty member in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Colorado State University. He teaches the introductory course in crop production and management which includes plant and seed identification. He also teaches advanced courses in crop production. Dr. Fenwick has received the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences and the College of Agricultural Sciences, and the Outstanding Advising Award from the College and the University.

James Bruce, M.S., is a seed analyst employed at the USDA, ARS, National Seed Storage Laboratory. He is involved in the Colorado Sustainable Agriculture and Development Group at Colorado State University.
