This course is offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Colorado State University.

This course will teach the fundamentals of the state and federal legal systems and structures, including the judicial and legislative branches. In addition, the course will cover specific areas of interest and relevance to Americans, ages 50+, such as:

  • Wills, Trusts, and Estates.
  • Family and Domestic Relations Law.
  • Eldercare and Elder Law.

Note: Local attorneys with expertise in these particular areas will serve as guest speakers. Facilitators will insure plenty of time for questions and discussion of these areas, as well as additional legal topics that are of interest to the group.

Instructors

Joannah Merriman

Joannah Merriman, M.A. is a psychotherapist, educator, and journal therapist in private practice. She has kept a journal for 50 years and has presented workshops and seminars locally since 1979, nationally since 1993. She writes for herself and others at her home and studio just outside Fort Collins, Colorado, where she lives with her partner, Neil P., three dogs, two cats, and a multitude of writing implements and paper!

Donna Aurand

Donna Aurand is the Deputy General Counsel in the Office of General Counsel for the Colorado State University System. She has practiced law for 15 years, the last ten of which have been for CSU. She handles a wide variety of issues, but specializes in research contracts and real estate transactions. Donna received her B.A. in political science from CSU and her law degree from the University of Denver.
