EDUC 591F - Workshop: Learning Math: Data Analysis, Statistics & Probability

One of five Learning Math courses for elementary and middle school teachers which are organized around the content standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability introduces statistics as a problem-solving process. Participants can build skills through investigations of different ways to collect and represent data, and describe and analyze variation in data.

Through practical examples, help participants to understand some statistical concepts, such as data representation, variation, the mean and median, bivariate data, probability, designing statistical experiments, and population estimations. The concluding case studies, divided into grade bands for K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 teachers, show how to apply these concepts in the classroom.

The course consists of 10 two-and-a-half hour sessions, each with a half-hour of video programming, problem-solving activities available in print and on the web, interactive activities and demonstrations and questions for class discussion or individual reflection.
