Dale Grit was born and raised in Western Lower Michigan, near Grand Rapids. After earning his BA from Hope College, he completed his MS and PhD degrees at the University of Minnesota in 1974.
He joined the Computer Science Department at Colorado State University in September 1974. He has taught most of the Department's undergraduate courses, and graduate level courses in operating systems and parallel programming.
Two sabbatical leaves in the 1980s were spent at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, one hour east of San Francisco. His family enjoyed exploring the Bay Area and much of California during those two years.
While in Minnesota, Dale and his wife enjoyed several week-long canoe trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. In Colorado, the camping trips became backpacking excursions in the Rockies. Dale also enjoys playing basketball and racquetball, bicycling and gardening.
