BUS 690F - Contemporary Issues in Finance - Financial Institutions and Credit Markets

Prerequisite

BUS 640 (Financial Principles and Practice) and BUS 641 (Financial Markets and Investments) from CSU’s MBA program or those with Finance, Accounting and Banking Professionals may qualify for enrollment in this course.

Description

The objective of this class is to provide the student with an understanding of the risks. The class will include a description of some of the financial institutions in the system such as banks, insurance companies, investment banks, hedge funds, mutual funds, and trading markets as well a description of the credit markets and how they impact the firm. Additionally, the student will learn how to use some hedging tools such a futures, options, and interest-rate swaps to help mitigate some of the risks faced by the firm.

Instructors

Susan Hine, PhD

Susan Hine is an clinical professor in the College of Business, Finance and Real Estate Department. Prior to her work at the university level, Sue operated a western wear/feed store in Colorado as well as operated a horse sale consignment company. Additionally, she worked as vice president of financial services at a large Colorado bank holding company.
