BUS 150 - Business Computing Concepts and Applications

3 Credits / Spring 2010

Delivery/Location: Online

BUS 150 is a course designed to optimize core computer skills for academic and business applications. Advancing beyond simple competency, the curriculum familiarizes students with some of the most powerful and popular computer tools used daily at universities and corporations around the world, specifically, the latest edition of Microsoft Office 2007, including MS Word 2007, MS Excel 2007, MS Access 2007, and MS PowerPoint 2007. Students also learn to maximize the Vista operating system, as well as to effectively utilize an array of Internet resources for effective communication and research. The course combines electronic lecture components with "hands-on" skill development exercises.

The course includes creation of a short business plan that uses all of the skills learned during the semester. Course materials include Pearson/Prentice Hall Publisher's computer-based learning software called MyITlab and a custom textbook.

Students use RamCT for communication with the instructor and MyITLab for learning content. The course exams must be proctored; students in northern Colorado may arrange proctoring with the instructor in CSU's dedicated computer lab located in Allison Hall on campus.

This is an 8-week course offered twice per semester. BUS 150 was previously numbered CIS 150.
