Delivery/Location: Fort Collins
This intense one-day workshop will help anyone who sells products to consumers through a retail facility, ranging from small stores to car dealerships. It is based on materials that have been taught as part of other Flight School workshops and is sponsored by CSU's Division of Continuing Education. This program is specifically tailored to retail businesses operating in the Fort Collins area. The workshop is taught by The Flight School, a team of seasoned business practitioners that mentor entrepreneurial and growth enterprises. It is co-presented by a featured entrepreneur who has succeeded in building a successful and sustainable business.
The workshop focuses on the following questions:
1. What factors distinguish successful retailers from those that go nowhere?
2. How do I successfully market my retail business?
3. How much funding is required to avoid under-capitalization?
4. How do I best manage my accounting to know how I'm doing?
5. What outside resources should I use? What should I do myself?
6. What specific tools can help my business?
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of:
- Best practices for retail success
- Effective marketing for retailers and
- Pitfalls to avoid
Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
Instructors
Bob Thilmont, President of Mountain Global, Inc., has over 25 years of business development experience in industrial and automotive industries, including 10 years of international business experience. While at Cummins and Woodward Governor Company, he developed a deep understanding of market channel development and value pricing and has experience in new business start ups and product launches. Bob earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Indiana University.
Bert Vermeulen has worked internationally with a variety of businesses, both large and small. He has created an industry association for retailers in one vertical market (meal prep); worked with over 400 owners of retail establishments to improve their marketing and operations; and partnered with a Colorado-based entrepreneur to grow a manufacturing business to over $25M/year in revenues and then successfully selling it. Learn about his research into companies that succeed and those that don't. Bert has a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and MBA from Stanford University.
