Delivery/Location: Fort Collins
This course is designed to introduce basic jewelry skills including sawing, filing, drilling, forming, soldering and sizing, and requires no previous jewelry experience. The focus is on the design and creation of a unique band ring made of either copper, brass or silver. Copper and brass will be provided; students wishing to work in silver must provide their own materials. A $30 materials fee covers all other needed materials. Tools are available for check-out.
Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.

Assistant Professor Haley Bates received her B.F.A. in 1994 from the University of North Texas, and her M.F.A. in 2002 from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is the Metalsmithing and Jewelry area coordinator at CSU and teaches all levels of undergraduate and graduate study within the concentration. Her own work explores traditional metalsmithing techniques and functional forms by reconstructing and reintroducing them in a contemporary art context. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
