Certificate Overview
In this five course series, you will learn fundamental concepts of merchandising, with a focus on the movement of products through varied levels of the distribution channel, from design and development of the product, to sourcing and production of the product, through to promotion and sale of the product to end use consumers.
You are trained for managerial roles in merchandising with a solid background in critical concepts in the industry. This certificate includes the core courses for the Master of Science in Merchandising and prepares you to pursue this graduate degree.
As an inter-institutional graduate program offered through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA), you have access to and learn from expert faculty at five institutions.
Mary Ann Littrell, Design and Merchandising Department Head, received a 2009 Malone Award for her international education efforts.
Certificate Curriculum
In order to complete the certificate you must complete all five courses below. You may take up to six credits without admission, but completion of the 15 credits for the certificate requires admission to the Master of Science in Merchandising degree.
- DM 510 - Consumer Behavior (3 cr.)
- DM 520 - Professional Advancement in Merchandising (3 cr.)
- DM 530 - Product Design, Development and Evaluation (3 cr.)
- DM 540 - Promotional Strategies in Merchandising (3 cr.)
- DM 550 - Retail Theory and Practice (3 cr.)

What You Will Earn
