Systems Engineering - Ron Sega Introduces the Program

Transcript Text

Ron Sega (VP for Energy, the Environment, and Applied Research):

Colorado State University is offering innovative opportunities in Systems Engineering education. The history of systems engineering probably goes back to the 1950s when we were building boosters that were going to space, that were increasingly complex. We wanted to reduce the risk in these very complex systems. Aerospace continued to evolve this discipline of systems engineering as it built complex airplanes and satellites and other systems. Today, we have systems that are equally complex in the area of energy and environment and evolving in areas such as healthcare and biosciences. We are offering the systems engineering course in class, out of class, synchronously and asynchronously, to make it flexible for our working professional students. It is my experience that systems engineering is going to be increasingly important as we go forward. The 21st century is characterized by an increasing rate of change in technology and complexity. It is our goal to meet that challenge with the systems engineering education at Colorado State University.
