Sustainable Military Lands Management

Transcript Text

Dr. William Doe (Warner College of Natural Resources)

I would like to introduce you to an exciting new online learning certificate program called "Sustainable Military Lands Management." Today, the Department of Defense manages over 30 million acres of lands across the 50 states. In this certificate program, you will learn about the historical, geographical, and environmental context of how these military lands were established and the roles they play today, not only to provide training and testing lands for our military, but also to provide important ecological, social, and community context for the areas in which they reside.

Our certificate program is the only one of its kind in the nation focusing on military lands as an important part of our federal lands management system. In our certificate program, you will take three online courses for a total of nine credits. The first course entitled Introduction to Sustainable Military Lands Management will focus on the historical, geographical, and environmental context of military lands, both historically and as they exist today. Our second course Cultural Resources Management of Military lands will study the historical and archeological riches that are found on military lands and the important environmental laws and management systems that are in place to protect those historical and cultural resources. In our third course the Ecology of Military Lands will focus on natural resources management with an emphasis on threatened endangered species, ecological diversity, and environmental restoration due to impacts caused by military training activities.

If you are interested in studying about military lands or working on military lands as a professional, we hope you will give serious consideration to taking this online certificate program. If you are interested, please contact the Division of Continuing Education through their website or phone numbers.

So, on behalf of The Warner College of Natural Resources, we wish you the best of luck in your studies ahead.
