Appeals
The appeals process is designed to provide students, who experience unavoidable or extenuating circumstances, the opportunity to request a waive of a policy that, if enforced, would result in unsatisfactory academic progress or financial consequences.
The drop and refund appeal applies to students enrolled in credit or noncredit courses. The academic (grade) appeal applies to students enrolled in credit courses only.
Drop and Refund Appeal
Refunds and drops are granted based on the policies of Colorado State University and the Division of Continuing Education. It is the student’s responsibility to read and understand the drop and refund policies as published by the Division of Continuing Education.
Appeals must be submitted to the Division of Continuing Education via mail or fax, or emailed to appeals@learn.colostate.edu. Appeals should be submitted as soon as possible and must be received within one year from the date of enrollment to be considered. The appeal request must be in the following format:
- The request should be typed and in letter format addressed to the committee. Only written appeals will be considered. It should be clearly stated whether the request is for a refund and/or drop.
- The letter should be very thorough with specific details given. Please include dates and times, especially dates of class sessions missed.
- If requesting and exemption due to medical reasons, the Authorization For Release of Medical/Psychological Records must be used.
- If requesting an exemption due to work-related reasons, please have your immediate supervisor verify in writing the reasons for which you are requesting an exemption using the letterhead of your organization and submit via mail or fax.
An appeals committee reviews requests once a month and grants exemptions only if the committee sees evidence of extenuating circumstances. Notification of the committee's decision will be mailed to the student.
Academic (Grade) Appeal
Grade appeals must be submitted to the academic department not the Division of Continuing Education. See the Advising and Registration section of the General Catalog for complete policy information.
Another option for undergraduate students is to apply for an academic fresh start, a University policy which allows students to establish a new academic record. See the Admissions Office website for more information.
