Northern Colorado Regional Workforce Initiative

Posted Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Colorado State University, Aims Community College, Front Range Community College, and the University of Northern Colorado are moving forward on a joint venture to help meet Northern Colorado’s workforce and industry needs.

The institutions recently completed a bidding process and selected an in-state consultant to assist in further development of the regional cooperative known as Northern Colorado Higher Education Collaborative.

Development Research Partners, along with its partner First Flatiron Consulting, have begun research to identify opportunities where collaboration among the institutions is beneficial. Data from the past five years will be collected to identify key areas to pursue within the venture. The work will include:

  • Analyzing the workforce and educational needs in Weld and Larimer counties and comparing those patterns to the educational offerings in the region from a collected inventory of academic programs at the institutions.
  • Providing information to the institutions to assist prospective students in making informed educational choices based on their career path in alignment with industry demands.
  • Identifying each institution's set of strengths, challenges, opportunities and niches to determine how the initiative could complement each institution without duplicating efforts.
  • Identifying areas where the collaborative could respond quickly to industry needs.
  • Providing data to create a framework in determining best practices in collaboration of this kind.

It is anticipated findings from the project will be available this fall. The institutions are sharing the $35,000 cost of the study.
